Kudos to Art Umezu for pulling together all those musicians for the Mokutoh, or moment of silence, over the weekend. If you were at the Courtyard by Marriott at Coconut Beach, you would have run into Kenny Ishii who was hob-nobbing with the lead pirate — other than Johnny Depp from “The Pirates of the Caribbean” (Art says it really neat).
But the stars of the show were Kazz (if you are an acoustical soul musician, you can have only one name) from Hayama, Japan, and Hironobu “Hiro” Saito, a jazz guitarist from New York.
They were playing at the Sunday event, too, being joined by Aki Conquest who does both, the Rakudo Taiko and the Joyous Noise, a youth group from St. Michael’s and All Angels Church.
Ernie Domingo (he was waiting on Peter Rayno) is making sure Sunday is the Lawai Cannery garage sale benefiting the Easter Seals. People interested in selling have to call Lorna Santos at 332-5929 quickly to make sure there is space— yelp.com has a blog about how busy it gets.
