Free seedlings and seed packets will be available at the Mayor’s Aloha Garden Celebration at 4 p.m. Friday at the backstage area of Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall.
The Kaua‘i High School Key Club, which is hosting the event, will also unveil a new banner contributed by Ranny Warburton of Sign Waves.
The Kaua‘i High School Key Club, with Charlene Navarro as its advisor, recently sent 52 delegates to the 51st Annual Division 22 State Key Club Convention at the Sheraton Keauhou on the Big Island — the largest student group to attend the event.
At the convention, the Key Club won 11 awards for member performances, and 18 members were awarded certificates for contributing 50-plus hours of service.
Ryan Valenciano was named winner of the Distinguished Impromptu Essay award. The club earned the Distinguished Club Talent award with a performance choreographed by Kaua‘i Community College Dance Club members.
Navarro was presented the Faculty Advisor of the Year award, and the Kaua‘i High School organization earned the Outstanding Club Spirit award.
A T-shirt stand created by the club members earned Outstanding Year in Review honors. Kevin Jian earned the Outstanding Oratory and the Outstanding President awards.
Kristen Sugihara was handed the Outstanding Vice President award, and Courtney Ochoco was named Outstanding Member of the Year.
Travis Navarro, Ochoco, Sierra Ota and Jamie Ota were Outstanding Quiz Bowl winners.
