Karen Matsumoto of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association who assists the county with the officials’ table at the Youth Division II basketball games, said this was Westside Basketball’s first game in the Division II, although Soriano and Pabre both played in the earlier Division I games for students in the sixth through eighth grades.
The Division II games are for students in the fourth through sixth grades.
Team Central White got 13 points from Kaimani Tecson and nine points from Kaiea Miguel with Aukai Albao netting four points in the effort.
Earlier in the night, Hunter Yoshioka and Jacob Young set the pace for Team Central Black with 11 and 10 points, respectively, in its 38-13 win over Team Lihu‘e Heat who got five points from Aizen Yamashita and three marks each from Keane Tibon and Kekoa Wehner.
The inclement weather cancelled the games earlier in the week when the girls’ game scheduled for Kilauea on Monday were rescheduled to Mar. 14 at Kilauea Neighborhood Center.
The boys were scheduled to take the floor in Kilauea, Tuesday, but those games have been rescheduled for Mar. 21 at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Matsumoto said she will be taking applications Saturday during the five games scheduled at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center starting with three boys’ games from 9 a.m. and two girls’ games starting at noon.
Applications are for the Dennis Agena of the Kalakaua Basketball Club basketball clinic which will be held, Mar. 24 through 26 during the Prince Kuhio Day weekend at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Registration fee is $25 per student for the three days and includes lunch.
Pre-registration for this popular basketball clinic will also be accepted by Nani Camat at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center.
Team Central Black opens the Saturday action against Westside Basketball starting at 9 a.m. followed by Papalina-Orange going up against Team Central White at 10 a.m. The Team Lihu‘e Bulls battle the Kaua‘i Ballers at 11 a.m.
The girls of Team Lihu‘e 1 go up against their counterparts, Team Lihu‘e 2 starting at noon followed by Kaulupono battling Hanakila starting at 1 p.m.
