Most U.S-involved wars not inspired by religion
Re: “The majority of American Christians today — one could argue — is one of the most murderous prone religions in the world”
Before and during the 2,000 year history of Christianity, war, thievery, thuggery and plundering were common, natural daily events. Life free of chaos was unimaginable.
What is remarkable is how few sponsored Christian wars there have been — especially notable given the general meanness of the time.
Kindness, charity, honor and even forgiveness were enhanced then, as now, by Christian doctrine.
From reading numerous commentaries in the opinion section of this newspaper, I would expect some skepticism of the above thoughts.
However, let us look at the wars in which the U.S. has been involved, and review their motivations.
Revolutionary War 1775-82: Independence (Religious inspiration? No.)
War of 1812 1812–1813: Economic Independence (Religious inspiration? No.)
Mexican War 1846-48: Territorial Expansion (Religious inspiration? No.)
Civil War 1861-65: States Rights/Abolition (Religious inspiration? Yes/No.)
Indian Wars 1775-1890: Territorial Expansion (Religious inspiration? No.)
Spanish American War 1898-1901: Liberation/Imperial Expansion (Religious inspiration? No.)
World War I 1914-19: Retribution (Religious inspiration? No.)
World War II 1941-45: Retribution/Liberation (Religious inspiration? No.)
Korean War 1950-53: Repel Invasion/Cold War Conflict (Religious inspiration? No.)
Vietnam 1960-73: Repel Invasion/Cold War Conflict (Religious inspiration? No.)
1st Gulf War 1990-1991: Liberation/Economic (Religious inspiration? No.)
Afghanistan/Iraq 2002-present: Retribution/Preemption (Religious inspiration? No.)
That is a bunch of wars; however, the Christian religion was not the catalyst.
Certainly, governments have fraudulently cloaked themselves in a veil of Christianity to justify various outrages.
War has been omnipresent in past human existence, and, in fact, dear reader, the only reason you exist today is that many in your gene pool history were adept at it.

Quick response
On Feb. 22, I was the only one home. I am an elderly woman at a young age of 80-something. I was in the restroom and felt very dizzy. Then I fell to the floor, and I couldn’t stand up on my own.
I tried yelling for help, hoping my neighbors could hear me — unfortunately to no avail. No one heard.
It was then I remembered I wear a life responder device /necklace. So I pressed the button, and the dispatcher dispatched the EMTs to my home at Hanapepe Cliffside. It only took several minutes, and they were at my home to help me.
The EMTs were concerned about my low blood pressure and a high fever. So they transported me to the KVMH Emergency Room.
The emergency room staff took care of me and recommended that I stay a couple of days for observation.
While in the hospital, they monitored my blood pressure and lowered my fever.
I’d like to thank the dispatcher, the EMTs and KVMH Emergency Room staff for the quick response to my well-being in caring for me.
Much mahalo for your professionalism and concern.
Juanita Eslit, Hanapepe
Bill on transient accommodations
I’ve got a question for our state lawmakers.
If they pass Bill 1707, which will require nonresident “transient accommodations owners” to employ a property manager approved by the Real Estate Commission, how do they intend to enforce that law?
And if there is some way to enforce it, then why don’t they just use that enforcement method to enforce the existing TAT laws and GET laws, rather than pass an unnecessary law?

Police station needs upkeep
The old saying, “A picture paints a thousand words,” proves very true.
We paid a lot of money to build the new police station and courthouse. On KHON News 2, the police station looked run down and old. Is our county doing anything to upkeep the building?
It looked like it could use a paint job. The building was an embarrassment to see on public television.
Mayor Carvalho, purchase some paint and get the county workers to paint the police station. The building sits close to the gateway of the airport. Freshen up the building and the property.
