HANAPEPE — Waimea catcher Kawehi Ephan conked two homeruns to help the host Menehune improve to a 3-0 record Friday morning at Hanapepe Stadium.
Ephan, nailing a solo shot to leftfield in the opening inning against Pac Five, followed that with another homer to lead Waimea to a 6-4 edge over Pac Five, in the first of two games, Friday.
Pool and seeding play continued Friday to set the stage for the Single Elimination tournament format, Saturday.
Kapa‘a, opening against ‘Iolani, dropped its match as did Kaua‘i High School, opening Friday against the Mid-Pacific Institute.
As of midday Friday, Waimea is 3-0 with two runs and three allowed, being joined by Mililani who has no runs and 2 allowed. ‘Iolani is also at 3-0 with two runs and three allowed entering the Single Elimination format which starts Saturday from 8 a.m. at the Hanapepe Stadium complex.
With its 3-0 record, host Waimea tops the Division II following. Kamehameha-Big Island, Waialua, Kamehameha-Maui and Maryknoll are all with one win, Kam-Big Island at 1-1 while all the other schools are 1-2.
Games start at 8 a.m. with the championship games for both Division II and the tournament scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m
