MANLY, AUSTRALIA — Malia Manuel’s run through the Australian Open of Surf came to end Sunday (Saturday on Hawai‘i) morning in the semifinals.
The Wailua native, who was using this 6-Star event as a warmup for her debut on the ASP Women’s Tour later this month, was beaten by former world champion Sofia Mulanovich of Peru, 13.84 to 9.43.
The heat came down to the final minutes with the two relatively close in scoring, but on Mulanovich’s second to last wave, she scored an 8.17 to give her a firm lead over Manuel.
Manuel will make her Women’s Tour debut on Feb. 25 on Australia’s Gold Coast in the Roxy Pro.
