PRINCEVILLE — Kaua‘i Police Department closed the northbound lane of Kuhio Highway near the Kapaka Street junction in Princeville for more than two hours Friday following an officer-involved, three-car traffic collision.
At approximately 1:25 p.m., a police vehicle traveling northbound on the highway struck the back end of a white van, causing it to collide with the rear end of a gray two-door convertible, also traveling northbound, a KPD news release states.
Emergency responders transported the officer who was driving the police vehicle to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihu‘e for non life-threatening injuries, the release states. No other injuries were reported.
KPD’s Traffic Safety Unit cleared the highway and reopened it just before 4 p.m.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
