PUHI — One of the first things visiting Okinawa Christian University students learned on Wednesday during a two-week educational tour at Kaua‘i Community College was the art of shaka.
Two groups of students, nine in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and 15 in English courses of study, arrived Sunday for a two-week educational tour at KCC, KCC spokesman Eric Anderson said.
Wednesday, the ECE group was making its way to the KCC cafeteria for lunch, but the students were more than happy to demonstrate their mastery of shaka skills.
“The group is here with ECE and English majors, but while here will be studying hospitality and tourism,” Anderson said.
“This involves field trips and tours to places like the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort and Beach Club and other areas.”
Isoko Kishaba, an associate professor with the ECE program at Okinawa Christian University, and Keiko Yamasato are chaperones for the group.
