KAPA‘A — An attempted theft of an automatic teller machine early Friday morning at Kaua‘i Products Fair may have been thwarted when the machine caught on fire, a county press release states.
At approximately 2:17 a.m., a man reported to Kaua‘i Police Department Dispatch that an ATM appeared to have been cut out with a torch.
When officers responded to the call, they discovered the ATM was on fire. Police extinguished the fire, and no other damage was caused to the surrounding structures.
The witness told officers he had observed two men in the area leave in a vehicle.
KPD is continuing its investigation.
