LIHU‘E — Austin Oshiro smacked a two-RBI single to rightfield to put Kaua‘i on the scoreboards first, Thursday at Vidinha Stadium.
The Kaua‘i Red Raiders were pitted against the ‘Iolani Red Raiders in one of three games as the Waimea High School preseason baseball invitational got underway.
Games will be played at three sites through Saturday, the host Menehune hosting Kamehameha-Big Island to a double-header Thursday at Hanapepe Stadium and the Kapa‘a Warriors hosting the Mid-Pacific Institute Owls at the Ron Martin field.
Friday games will see Kapa‘a host the Kamehameha-Big Island in a double-header starting at noon and 3 p.m. at the Ron Martin field.
Waimea will host ‘Iolani at the the Hanapepe Stadium in a noon and 3 p.m. matchup, while Kaua‘i hosts Mid-Pacific in a single 3 p.m. match.
“We’re just doing one double-header,” said Kaua‘i coach Ryden Domingcil. “We’ve got a single game Thursday and Friday and a double-header Saturday.”
Kaua‘i will play Kamehameha-Big Island starting at noon and 3 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium, Saturday.
Kapa‘a will be hosting ‘Iolani at the Ron Martin field and host Waimea will play Mid-Pacific at Hanapepe Stadium in double-headers starting at noon and 3 p.m.
The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation opens its baseball season on Mar. 10 when Waimea hosts Kaua‘i at Hanapepe Stadium in a double-header, the first pitch going at 10 a.m. and the second game following the completion of the first game with a 30-minute break between games.
