Team Central A charged back from a halftime deficit, netting 16 points to deadlock its match against Lepo Ula in the second of two boys’ games Tuesday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Karen Matsumoto of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association said Aaron Renaud put in some key blocks, and Bryce Johnson-Cormack launched a pair of treys along with Michael Dasalia firing off a three-ball to bring the game to its deadlock.
But Lepo Ula, coached by Afa Acoba, pulled ahead in the final periods for a 51-35 win.
Kamea Palama-Alquiza bucketed a game-high 17 points to lead the Leo Ula win, followed by C.J. Mecham adding seven marks and Keoni Ganiron finishing with six points.
Johnson-Cormack topped Team Central A, coached by Richie Gano, scoring with 13 points followed by Renaud with seven points and Blaise Banquel finishing with four points.
Gano had a busy night, earlier leading Team Central B to a 49-34 win over Papalina-Orange with coach Clyde Vito in the box.
Nate Herbig finished with a game-high 17 points to lead Central B’s win, followed by Kaone Miguel with seven and Lanakila Wilson with six.
Jonah Howard topped the Papalina-Orange scoring with 12 points followed by Noah Sasil adding seven and Brayden Miyamoto scoring four.
