LIHU‘E — Identifying a man found dead inside of a stolen vehicle on Jan. 19 following a robbery in Hanalei might require dental records, a Kaua‘i Police Department spokeswoman said Sunday.
Police have not been able to confirm an identity with any relative or database and will turn to dental records, the spokeswoman said.
An earlier county press release stated that the dead man is a suspect believed to have robbed an 82-year-old Hanalei man at gunpoint on Jan. 18, taking his car and money. The victim said he freed himself after being restrained to a chair in his home.
The victim’s vehicle was discovered in Princeville the following day with the dead man inside.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call KPD at 241-1711.
