The Waimea High School Jr. ROTC Color Guard will open each night’s program . Joining the Starlighters Feb. 10 will be Ron Toki, the 3 J’s with the Waimea High School hula and ‘ukulele programs, and Second Nature.
The Feb. 11 lineup includes the Waimea High School Band and Chorus, the Waimea Canyon School Band, Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko Kaua‘i, the state champion Waimea High School Cheer Team, Familiar Sounds, Halau Hula O Hali‘ileo and Roots Foundation.
Lucky number drawings will be featured both nights with ticket holders needing to be present to win. The event also will feature carnival rides.
Edwin Vea of the carnival’s publicity committee said various school clubs and organizations use this carnival as an opportunity to raise funds for their respective programs.
A bowling game will be offered by the Bayanihan Club. The cheer team, in addition to its entertainment stint, will be offering face painting. The school’s Fine Arts Department will man the fish pond. The Hawaiian Dance Class will field the duck pond.
The Jr. ROTC program will host the children’s games. Project Grad will host the Football Throw, and the Spanish Club will host the darts booth. A teen dance will be held on both nights in the school’s cafeteria.
The Waimea High School Class of 1963 has adopted the Country Store, which will be offering a variety of plants, vegetables, baked goods and a rummage sale. A Craft Shoppe featuring items donated by Waimea High alumni and friends will be featured. Call Janice at 482-1034 about donations.
Waimea High School’s classes of 1960, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1994 have “adopted” some of the booths. Volunteers are needed, organizers said, and are asked to call Roy at 651-9493.
Brycen Hiraoka, who recently chaired the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital dance and the Haunted Village Halloween event, is the carnival’s general chair.
His committee includes Patsy Nitta and Kathy Uyeda, Country Store; Jeff Emoto and Basilio Fuertes, construction; Lisa Hiraoka, food; Iris Hesapene and Roxanne Cardejon, entertainment; Alvin Kyono, security; Allison Toma, games; Brycen Hiraoka and Gwen Teragawa, hospitality; Roy Miyashiro, manpower; Edwin Vea, Naoko Ho and Gwen Teragawa, publicity; Nani Ho‘okano, sanitation, and Danette Vea Wise and Adela Ochinang, silent auction.
