KALAHEO — Mosese Fifita poured in a game-high 18 points to lead the Kaua‘i Ballers to a 52-35 win over Westside Basketball Thursday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Lanakila Wilson opened with a three-ball en route to coasting to a game-high 14 points to lead Team Central B to a 56-28 showing over its counterpart, Team Central A in the second game of the county’s youth winter basketball league for students in grades six through eight.
Willow Batol followed Fifita, dropping 11 points, including a three-ball to open his scoring in the third period as the Kaua‘i Ballers stayed ahead of Westside Basketball from the opening tipoff.
Thomas Yam finished with nine points in the victory, including two bombs from outside the three-point arc.
Levi Otsuka-Lewis led the Westside effort with 10 points, everything dropping in the third and fourth period. Brandon Ijima and Briggs Agu each poured in six points, followed by Carter Koetje adding five points and D.J. Pabre finishing with four points.
Team Central B took control of its match against Team Central A, building a 25-4 lead after just two of the six periods in its match, Wilson pocketing seven of his game-total 14 points in the two periods.
Marty Lacierna, finishing with seven points, stoked Team Central A in the third period where the blackshirts outscored the B team, 7-6, Marty getting five of the team’s seven points.
But Team Central stayed ahead led by Wilson’s 14 points. Bradon Remigio and Mark Lacierna added eight points each, Kaone Miguel finishing with seven marks. Travis Girard and Nate Herbig each ended with six points.
Michael Dasalia dropped a three-ball toward his game-total seven points, combining with Marty Lacierna’s seven points to lead the Team Central A effort with Kaimi Texeira adding six points in the effort.
The girls take the floor Monday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center when Kaulupono tangles with Team Lihu‘e starting at 6 p.m. followed by the Kamikaze going up against the Kaua‘i Ballers at 7 p.m.
The boys play Tuesday, also at Kalaheo, when Papalina-Orange matches up against Team Central B starting at 6 p.m. followed by the Kaua‘i Ballers meeting Team Central A starting at 7 p.m.
