Now that the KIF basketball season is not so hectic, I got an opportunity to check out the county’s youth winter league with Karen and Steven Matsumoto at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Tab Matsumoto was one of the officials and said the adult league is pretty close to starting, since the players were all waiting in the wings to start their pick-up games and admiring the skills of the sixth-grade to eighth-grade students. Mark Lacierna of Team Central B even was able to flash a quick shaka during one of the free throw attempts in its game against Team Central A.
Today, I go check out Lopaka Bukoski at the Kaua‘i Museum ‘Ohana Day celebrating Chinese New Year. Jane Gray said she’s got the food all lined up, and Andrea Frainier said everything should start at around 10 a.m. and last until about 12:30 p.m. (They have to get ready for Larry Rivera, who plays at 1 p.m.)
And then there’s the Eastside Family Summit. Unfortunately, John Kaneholani said this is the first time in three years the Hanakila ‘ukulele band will not be there because they have a car wash.
