HONOLULU – A new website will allow Internet users to determine their computer or electronic device’s Internet speed.
The website at hawaispeed.test.net will also help the state map its broadband coverage, and identify and close gaps in service, as part of the Hawai’i Broadband Initiative, the governor’s office stated in a news release this week.
“Measuring broadband speeds is pretty tough, but if we can get enough tests coming in from the public over various times of the day and with various amounts of Internet traffic, then we can make a good estimation to work from,” said Sterling Yee, a broadband program specialist for the state.
To take the test, visit http://hawaiispeedtest.net, fill in your current location information and click “Begin Test.”
The Hawai‘i Broadband Initiative was started last fall to increase the use of affordable, ultra-high-speed broadband services and applications to spur economic growth and also develop applications for the state’s healthcare, education, public safety and government operations.
