Two Department of Water crews from the agency’s Operations Division were honored as the Department of Water Employees of the Quarter during the board’s monthly meeting last week.
Chief Engineer David Craddick said the award is normally given to an individual, but both crews demonstrated outstanding teamwork during two recent emergency repair jobs which deemed it deserving of this recognition, states a county news release.
Honorees on the two teams include lead pipefitters Warren Rita and Alan Iwasaki, pipefitter Raymond Chow, equipment operators Corey Silva and Darren Lizama, equipment operators, and pipefitter helpers Randy Watanabe and Kevin Pongasi.
“The crew worked tirelessly through the rain and mud to restore water to the neighborhood,” Gil Scott said in a “Letter to the Editor,” which appeared in The Garden Island . “What made this crew stand out even further was that when the main repair was completed, they discovered that the lateral line to my house was also damaged. Instead of calling it a day, the men did the repair in dark, rainy, muddy and very dangerous traffic conditions, and restored water service to my home by the early morning.”
Retired Judge Gerald Matsunaga, in a letter sent to Department of Water Managing Director Gary Heu, commended the responding work crew for promptly rectifying a water leak problem close to his residence.
