KALAHEO — Marissa Martinez and Malyssa Manera showed up at the Kaua‘i High School gym with their Team Lihu‘e shirts after leading the Max Manera-coached team to a 38-21 win over the Kaua‘i Ballers Monday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Both managers of the Red Raider girls basketball team finished at the top of the Lihu‘e scoring, Martinez dropping 11 points with Manera finishing with nine points, including a three-ball in the first half.
Sam Coloma topped the Kaua‘i Ballers’ scoring.
Kaulupono turned to balanced scoring from its forwards and the press in defense in its 36-18 win over the Kamikaze in the second of two games played in the county’s youth winter basketball league for students in grades 6 through 8.
Taegan Keep, Shania Kahepu‘u and Melia Okura each finished with six points to lead the Kaulupono win.
Kaelee Esposo topped the Kamikaze effort with five points followed by Sandrea Chung and Sheryl Ann Tomas adding four points apiece.
The boys take the floor, Thursday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center when the Kaua‘i Ballers open against Westside Basketball starting at 6 p.m., followed by Team Central A taking on Team Central B starting at 7 p.m.
Four games are on tap for Saturday when the boys and girls take the floor starting with Papalina-Blue going up against Lepo Ula starting at 9 a.m., followed by Papalina-Orange taking on Hanakila at 10 a.m. for the boys.
Team Lihu‘e matches up against the Kamikaze starting at 11 a.m. followed by the Kamikaze battling Kaulupono at noon.
