George Costa got to carry the flag Asian groups were to follow as he led the visitors from Shanghai, China, off their Miami Airlines flight to Kaua‘i, Wednesday.
Sue Kanoho of the Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau said the impromptu airport greeting was so last minute that one of the musicians had to run from the bus depot to the baggage claim area to perform and Nicole Naumu was able to perform several hula while waiting on Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. to return from his engagement at the Pacific Missile Range Facility.
Hats off to Kaui Tanaka for being able to get photos while managing the mayor’s remarks and have the Chinese translator work on an interpretation for the group of 143 visitors.
Shu-Li Tsai said the group is from Sparta Development Co. in Shanghai with 25 branch offices in different provinces and offers specialty training and retreat for business owners. She said the company is led by Liu Yi Miao with about 60,000 businesses registered as members. She said this is their first trip to Kaua‘i and plan on returning.
