Briggs Agu poured in a game-high 25 points, but Westside Basketball dropped a 44-43 nail-biter over Papalina-Blue, Tuesday night at the county’s youth winter league for students in the sixth through eighth grades.
Kai Lewis and Daniel Fee led the Papalina-Blue effort with a dozen and 11 points, respectively, at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
“Briggs kept the Westside team going against the Papalina team who led through most of the game,” said Karen Matsumoto of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association who coordinates the floor officials and scoring table. “Even at the buzzer, he dropped a three-point shot which brought them to within a point of tying the game.”
Earlier in the night, Triston Hawelu Inanod dropped a game-high 12 points to lead Hanakila to a 35-24 win over Team Lihu‘e who got seven points from Jhay Karl Dante.
Games move to the Kilauea Neighborhood Center Thursday, when Hanakila opens against Team Central B at 6 p.m. followed by Lepo Ula taking on Team Central A starting at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s games move to the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center when Team Central B open,s against the Kaua‘i Ballers at 9 a.m. followed by Westside Basketball tangling with Papalina-Orange at 10 a.m.
The Kaua‘i Ballers’ girls team take on the Kamikaze at 11 a.m. with Team Lihu‘e girls closing the day against Kaulupono starting at noon.
