Hats off to Kaua‘i Community College Chancellor Helen Cox and her KCC ‘ohana on hosting the UH Board of Regents (Michael Dahilig and Dr. Ramon Dela Pena had the look of proud hosts) over the past several days.
Sheane Mandrigues was celebrating her birthday during the excitement, and Chef Martina Hildorfer, Mark Oyama and Steven Nakata had the culinary kids (Don’t forget to get ACF Breakfast tickets!) working hard — especially during the launch of Ho‘ouluwehi, or the Sustainable Living Institute of Kaua‘i.
Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. got to do the pule for the event instead of having to give a speech, and Mark Rossi and his daughter Pua did an outstanding job of giving a sense of place with their rendition of “Nawiliwili” and Pua’s talk.
Cutting everything short, it was off to Island School where coach Cheryl Claypoole was finally able to celebrate the Voyagers’ first girls basketball win after being beat all season long. She said Anahola Joel Pahukula will be broadcasting the Island School senior night game next week, too.
OK, it’s off to KIF paddling championships on the Wailua River.
