WAILUA — The Kapa‘a High School junior varsity boys and varsity boys paddling teams and its junior varsity mixed team, as well as the Kaua‘i High School junior varsity girls paddling team, remain undefeated following four Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation paddling regattas.
The Kaua‘i JV girls opened the action under chilly conditions on the Wailua River, surging into the turn well ahead of the Kapa‘a JV squad and finishing more than 15 seconds ahead of the JV Warriors.
Kaua‘i crossed the line on a 4:12:34 half-mile run, the JV Warriors crossing on a 4:31:60 run.
The Warriors JV boys followed that action, its lead crew surging forward into the turn and crossing on a 4:07:22 run over the Kaua‘i JV boys who followed at 4:18:50.
The Kapa‘a boys wrapped up their division sweep when their top crew slipped across the line on a 3:44:80 run in the chilly northerly trades.
Kaua‘i followed at 3:48:85 in the final heat, with Waimea rounding out the field on a 4:03:70 paddle.
With the wins, both the Kapa‘a JV boys and varsity boys teams, and its JV mixed division and the Kaua‘i girls, accumulate 16 points heading into the KIF Championship on Saturday at Wailua River.
Following its win in the JV girls, Kaua‘i added a first finish in the varsity mixed division, its crew doing a sub-four minute run, crossing in 3:56:69 followed by Kapa‘a at 4:07:41 and Waimea crossing at 6:06:64.
With this win, Kaua‘i holds the lead in the varsity mixed division with 14 points, followed by Kapa‘a with 10 points and Waimea with four points.
Kapa‘a JV mixed team fought off a challenging Kaua‘i squad, crossing at 4:12:41 over the Raiders’ 4:18:92 run over the half mile.
The Kapa‘a varsity women redeemed its loss last week, crossing at 4:05:99, challenged heavily by the Waimea girls.
The Waimea girls picked up their first win last week.
Waimea crossed a second back of Kapa‘a, tripping the clocks at 4:06:73 followed by the Kaua‘i girls at 3:48:85, all three teams posting sub-four minute times.
With the win, the Kapa‘a girls take the lead in the division with 10 points, challenged by Waimea at nine points and Kaua‘i with eight points.
Kawaikini, its A team doing a 4:11:84 run, holds a point in the overall standings.
The championship regatta is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Saturday on the Wailua River.
