It’s the same lively event, but with a new name. The Shoppes of Old Kapa‘a Town have come together to host First Saturday in Old Kapa‘a Town, formerly known as Art Night in Old Kapa‘a Town.
From 5 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 7, more than a dozen businesses stayed open after hours to host live music, art exhibits and talk story with visitors who wandered through their doors. Live musicians were stationed in front of Island Hemp & Cotton Co., a.ell atelier and Alley Kat Art, while artists displayed their wares at booths lining the streets.
Artist Megan Deets celebrated the opening reception of her new body of work, “Animaginary World,” at Alley Kat Art. The playful oil paintings featuring pink fish, a purple hippopotamus and other colorful creatures showcase Deets’ vivid imagination and her love for animals. The exhibit runs through February.
Over at Java Kai, photographs by Taryn Mari, owner and designer of KaiKini bikinis, adorned the walls of the coffee shop while a DJ spun live sets.
The First Saturday in Old Kapa‘a Town takes place every first Saturday of the month from 5 to 8 p.m. For more information about future events or participating businesses, visit its Facebook page.
