LIHU‘E — Two 19-year-old Kapa‘a men are going to trial in June on charges involving 19 felony and non-felony counts of theft and property damage.
Kaelantroy Kalani Tanigawa and Jonathan Yed stood before Judge Kathleen Watanabe in 5th Circuit court Wednesday in separate cases involving charges of automobile break-ins and thefts of credit cards, cash, purses and other valuables. The cases reportedly involved multiple victims including residents, visitors and rental car companies.
Tanigawa was represented by attorney Mark Zenger, and Yed was represented by attorney Michael Soong. Each lawyer said that a plea deal was not reached and set their trials for June 12.
Samuel Jajich, county second deputy prosecutor, did not object to the June continuance that allowed Tanigawa to complete his semester at school.
The two face four counts of second-degree theft, six counts of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, three counts of credit card theft, three counts of obtaining unauthorized personal information and six counts of fourth-degree criminal property damage, court records show.
The two were arrested July 7 on a warrant and charged by way of felony information for the crimes that occurred around May 20. They were arraigned on July 19.
