Hawaiian Airlines will offer two new daily round-trip flights from Kaua‘i to Maui beginning in March, Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO Mark B. Dunkerley told a meeting of business and community leaders in Kapa‘a on Friday.
The airline also will offer new services from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York beginning June 4 that will feature morning flights designed to allow passengers to arrive in Honolulu by afternoon, take connecting flights to other islands such as Kaua‘i and land before nightfall, he said.
“We have timed it in such a way so people will get up in the morning in New York and be frequenting your businesses by sundown,” Dunkerley said at a luncheon at Courtyard by Marriott Kaua‘i at Coconut Beach.
George Costas, Kaua‘i County’s director of economic development, praised the planned new flights from Kaua‘i to Maui.
“It means a lot, especially to people who do business in Maui,” Costas said.
“It means it’s a lot more convenient to travel. This is going to help the local traffic, especially when you want to visit family.”
Hawaiian Airlines is the state’s largest and longest-serving airline.
