Tyra Tandal’s aunt said KIF girls volleyball and girls soccer is the only time she’ll wear red to support her neice who plays stopper for coach Reiko Yoshida. Her uncle, of course, is a solid green person, but aunty said Tyra knows he supports her because he shows up at the games, too.
They were both at the varsity girls soccer game at Vidinha Stadium and Ross Shimabukuro said he probably would have to miss coach Ipo Yoshioka’s opening game because Kaua‘i was the host of soccer.
Greg Gonsalves (Kekai “Kiki” Gonsalves was one of the ball chasers) was at Island School with Kaipo Kealalio for the varsity boys game and Jon Kobayashi was anchoring the Clem Gomes Gym where the boys basketball season got underway.
Sam and Manny Henriques were both at Island School (Manny got Daniel Alonzo’s winning goal shot!) and Kevin Cadiente went to Waimea, leaving Keith Burgess at the stadium.
Michelle Lemy and Lisa Iida made the trip out to Waimea two nights in a row to help run the officials’ table and Joyce Evens had her video crew working two nights straight doing the games.
