Members of Waimea High School’s first Interact Club have been working together to help do good deeds within the community.
“The whole idea of Interact Club is to develop leadership skills and give back to our community,” said Hayley Tapucol, a Waimea High Schol sophomore and club historian. “We work with the West Kaua‘i Rotary Club with community service projects. This is the first year of Interact Club at Waimea High School, and we have about 40 members.”
Interact Club is the Rotary International’s service club for people ages 12 to 18, according to the Rotary website.
The Rotary club provides guidance and support for the high school students as they complete service projects.
So far during the 2011–12 school year, the club has helped clean up the Waimea historic trail, raised $340 for Pennies for Presents and delivered gifts to the non-profit social service program Nana’s House in Waimea.
