Happy New Year to Lanaly Caballo and Michael Levine, who spent the New Year’s on Kaua‘i!
The pair was on their way back from Polihale and stopped off at the Koloa Sunshine Market before having lunch at Koloa Deli (no Kori Sakamoto since she has a new place on the Mainland).
David Bukoski had his kids out practicing at the Anne Knudsen Park since AJA baseball starts Sunday and the West Kaua‘i Pinto league opens today.
Stephen and Yvonne Ruiz of Kalaheo were ready for the big rains, which never came this year. Yvonne said after the heavy rains wiped out the Manoa lettuce crops last year, she researched and researched (everything was coming up Iceberg) for another green leafed lettuce before accidentally finding one in their Manoa lettuce seeds. Stephen said while the Manoa takes a pounding from the rain, this new variety bends so when the rain is done, it just smiles.
Hats off to Terry Phillips, who has been filling in for Brother Branch Harmony at Koloa, but Terry said she doesn’t have the power to do the ti-leaf thing like Branch does.
