Whether you’re in the mood for baked sweets or an appetizing meal from a grill, Hanalima Bakery is the way to go.
Derek and Aika Erenske are the owners of this fabulous little bakery, that serves a wide variety of tasty pastries and meals to satisfy everyone’s appetite. The friendly staff welcomes you with smiles and makes sure you leave completely satisfied.
Since opening its doors in January 2000, the bakery has been busily serving Kaua‘i’s residents and visitors. All of Hanalima’s breads and pastries are made fresh each day and without preservatives.
Hanalima Bakery specializes in creating beautiful tropical-themed wedding cakes. Its chiffon cakes come in a variety of flavors: from passion fruit, guava and macadamia nut to vanilla or chocolate. All cakes are beautifully decorated in a light buttercream frosting, which can also be tinted to match a color theme.
Food prices start at 35 cents for a malasada to $6.75 for a hamburger steak. The menu includes breakfast food, sandwiches, wraps and bowls, plate lunches, burgers, odds and ends, and sweets, of course.
One of my favorites is their $6.75 loco moco, which is eggs, rice, fresh hamburger and gravy.
The teriyaki burger, selling for $5.50, comes with lettuce, tomato and onions.
Another favorite is their fresh cut fries for $1.25. I can never leave Hanalima without ordering one of these! My tummy always makes sure to leave room for some of their famous fries (as I like to call them).
Now for the sweets part of the menu. I usually don’t have a sweet tooth. Ask anyone and they will tell you that they never see me chewing on a piece of candy. However, Hanalima has one of the best bakeries in town, and I just can’t seem to resist the temptation!
When I’m in the mood for some sweets, I always find myself down at Hanalima Bakery. My favorite has to be their malasadas. Who can go wrong with a single malasada for only 35 cents? Another winner is the triple chocolate brownie. It’s mmm good.
If you haven’t been down to Hanalima Bakery yet, you should stop by. I promise that you will not regret it. The bakery has a little something for everyone — and with prices that fit any budget.
If you are planning on picking up some pastries, plan to stop by early in the morning, as they go pretty fast. You can also call them at 246-8816 ahead of time to place an order, so you don’t have to wait when you arrive.
