The public can ring in the New Year with Makana on Saturday at the Kilohana Plantation Lu‘au Pavilion.
Kilohana Plantation will be celebrating its 25th anniversary of tradition and aloha. A portion of the special New Year’s Eve dance party will benefit the YMCA of Kaua‘i, located across Kaumuali‘i Highway from the historic 105-acre mansion.
Tickets to the gala event restricted to people over 21 years old are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Advance tickets are available at the Hanalei Surf Co., Deja Vu in Kapa‘a, Kmart, Nukumoi Surf and Scotty’s Music.
Reserved tables for 10 people are also available by calling 245-5608.
Doors open at 7:15 p.m. New Year’s Eve with dancing and live music from 7:45 p.m. until 1 a.m.
Kawili will open the party followed by Makana, described as a prolific songwriter and acclaimed slack key guitarist, playing unplugged for 45 minutes.
Kawili will keep people going until Makana, this time joined by four of Kaua‘i’s top musicians — Randy Carnevali, Jim Winkler, Ron Rhodes and Jeff Caldwell — ring in the New Year with rock-n-roll music.
The first YMCA on Kaua‘i was established in 1916 in ‘Ele‘ele. By 1924, the YMCA had grown to 516 members participating in 35 groups around the island. Today the YMCA of Kaua‘i provides hundreds of members a place for family activities, sports, swimming and fitness programs for all ages and abilities.
