LIHU‘E — The radiology and environmental sciences departments at Wilcox Memorial Hospital finished in a tie for top honors during the annual Christmas tree decorating contest.
Both departments earned Most Extravagant votes from a panel of judges who visited the display earlier this month. They voted for category winners from decorated Christmas trees submitted by various departments within the Wilcox Health System.
The Wilcox Foundation and hospital’s marketing division earned top honors in the Most Original/Traditional category, and the surgery department won Most Delicious honors.
The Most Creative award went to the food and nutriton services department for a display that featured sushi, ume musubi and boxed noodles. The display also featured waribashi, or disposable chopsticks, and cans of Spam (low sodium, of course).
If laughter is the best medicine, it worked for staff members of the hospital’s infusion services department. Their whimsical use of tools and cartoons earned the department the Most Fun/Funny award.
The patient accounting department showed it has a lot of lines in the water. Staff members created a tree complete with homemade lures scaled to Christmas-tree size. This department snagged the Most Tropical/Hawaiian award.
The public is invited to view the trees free through the holidays in the hospital’s lobby during normal operating hours. If the appetite bug bites during the tour, the hospital cafeteria offers a variety of snacks.
