Registration rates for the Fourth Annual Kaua‘i Marathon will increase as early as Jan. 1.
The good news is people can take advantage of lower rates until Dec. 31 by visiting www.thekauaimarathon.com and registering online, according to a Kaua‘i Marathon release.
The four-person relay, introduced in the 2011 event, will be canceled for the 2012 event that runs Sept. 2, 2012, starting at 6 a.m.
Cancellation of this phase of the marathon was due to logistical difficulties in providing adequate shuttle service to all relay participants, states the release.
Kama‘aina and active military personnel can register for the full marathon for $115 from Jan. 1 through March 31. Rates for kama‘aina and active military will increase to $135 after March 31.
All other participants can register for $200 during this same period. Following March 31, the rates will increase to $225.
Kama‘aina and active military personnel participating in the half marathon can register for $75 per participant from Dec. 31 through Mar. 31. Rates increase to $105 after March 31.
Other participants in the half marathon can register for $95 during the same period. The rates increase to $125 per participant after March 31.
Race headquarters for the 2012 Kaua‘i Marathon will be the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa, where event registration, a sports and fitness expo, the Fun Run, and VIP dinner will be taking place. Headquarters are located just minutes from the start and finish line for the marathon.
