LIHU‘E — A cruise ship worker pulled from Kalapaki Beach has died.
According to Kaua‘i Police Department, Abraham Hassey-Cancino, 27, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 14 at 4:40 a.m. The Mexico native was a crew member of the Sapphire Princess that was docked in Nawiliwili Harbor the day of the incident.
Bystanders discovered Hassey-Cancino floating face-down in water close to shore at Kalapaki Beach near Duke’s Canoe Club around 2:09 p.m. on Dec. 3. Some reportedly administered CPR until and Kaua‘i Fire Department crew continued lifesaving measures and transported the victim to the hospital.
Hassey-Cancino remained in critical condition until he passed away last week.
The county released the report of the death on Monday.
