LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i plans to offer tours of Garden Isle waste disposal and recycling facilities next year.
The county says the Road to Recycling 2012 tours aim to raise awareness about diverting trash away from landfills.
Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Cavalho, Jr. is encouraging residents to join the tours and learn more about recycling opportunities.
On Jan. 19 and May 17 the tour will visit the Kekaha landfill and the Garden Isle Disposal recycling processing facility. On March 22, the tour will visit a school, a credit union and a major resort hotel to see how people are recycling in those places.
The county said Tuesday the tours are modeled after O‘ahu’s award-winning “Tour de Trash” series. O‘ahu has been offering the tours for more than a decade.
