KALAPAKI — A 27-year-old male cruise ship worker is in critical condition after nearly drowning Saturday afternoon at Kalapaki Beach.
The crew member — who works on the “Sapphire Princess” ship that was docked at nearby Nawiliwili Harbor — was found floating face-down in water fronting Duke’s Canoe Club at around 2:09 p.m.
Bystanders pulled him to shore and immediately administered CPR, a county news release states.
Kaua‘i Fire Department vehicles and crew from Medic 21 and Rescue 3 responded to the scene and continued CPR upon their arrival.
Medics revived the man, the release states, and then took him to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The crew member remained in critical condition Sunday afternoon, according to county spokeswoman Mary Daubert.
