WAIMEA — Kaua‘i police on Saturday released the names of the suspect and victims involved in a deadly stabbing spree late Friday morning in Waimea Valley.
Shendon Chandler-Taniguchi, age 21, is the suspect in the incident, a county news release states. The deceased is 68-year-old Edita Padamada.
The three surviving victims are Anthony Chandler, age 83, James Rick, age 63, and Julie Bergseid, age 50. Their current conditions are unknown, the release states. All are residents of Waimea Valley.
The incident began on Menehune Road at approximately 11 a.m. when Chandler-Taniguchi allegedly attacked Chandler, his grandfather, and then stabbed Padamada, who died as a result of the attack, the release states.
From there, the suspect walked a short distance and attacked Rick and Bergseid outside their home, the release states.
An officer at the scene attempted to stop Chandler-Taniguchi, but he ignored the officer’s verbal commands, continued the attack and then turned onto the officer. The officer shot the suspect who then attempted to flee before collapsing, the release states.
Chandler-Taniguchi was pronounced dead at the scene.
