“In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.” — Proverbs 10:19
Some people talk a lot and some people just talk too much! Those who do talk too much, at times are unable to stop the torrent of words coming from their lips, and they eventually start distorting the truth and telling tales. That is a nice way of saying they eventually lie and God says that is a sin. I am always leery of a person who talks too much, especially when their favorite topic is themselves. The person who controls or restrains their tongue on the other hand, who speaks few words, is considered wise by our Lord. I once had a Colonel in the Marine Corps I truly respected; his name was GVH Randall. Col. Randall was indeed a man of few words and when we would ask him a question, he would many times pause for a moment before he answered. One day I asked him why he did that and or course, after a pause, he responded: “Well Corporal, before I answer your questions I think about it for a while so I am sure I can give you the best possible answer I can give.”
Truly wise words and that was one of the reasons why we respected him. I think if we at times also spoke less, listened more and thought about what to say, before we said it, we too would be considered wise and be much better off. Let’s make our words count and then people can count on our word! — Pastor Tom
