LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Police Detective James Miller was presented the department’s Officer of the Month award.
Miller received the honor at the monthly Police Commission meeting Friday at the Pi‘ikoi Building. Police Chief Darryl Perry and the county Police Commission presented the award.
“(Miller) is a role model and an example of one of ‘Kaua’i’s Finest’ for his hard work, his inspiration and for his positive attitude and willingness to assist other detectives,” said Perry.
Miller was nominated for being instrumental in solving a crime and for his investigative skills. He was the first detective on scene on the morning of Sept. 26, when an automated teller machine was reported stolen from the Anchor Cove Shopping Center.
With the assistance of other Investigative Services Bureau detectives, Miller was instrumental in the capture of the suspects that were involved in the theft.
After some investigative work, Miller began his search for the suspect vehicle, noticed it traveling in the opposite direction, made a traffic stop and then seized the vehicle. He also found the area where the suspects broke into the ATM and recovered evidence.
With the tenacity of a skilled investigator, Miller pursued this crime and was said to be responsible for the arrests and the recovery of stolen property.
