PO‘IPU — A 59-year-old Honolulu man was airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center Tuesday after a bodysurfing accident at Shipwreck Beach in Po‘ipu, according to a county press release.
His current condition is not known.
According to witnesses, the man was body surfing at Keoneloa, commonly known as Shipwreck Beach, at around 6:06 p.m. and had caught a wave just before they noticed that he was unresponsive.
They brought him to shore and bystanders started CPR.
When firefighters from Koloa Fire Station arrived at the scene, they continued CPR on the victim and his pulse returned.
Medics then transported the victim to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and then prepared for an airlift to O‘ahu.
