The Kaua‘i High School Foundation presented a $3,500 check to Kaua‘i High School teacher Leah Aiwohi to support a project designed to assist the Kaua‘i Police Department in its public safety awareness program, according to a press release.
The funds provided by the foundation will be used to procure two laptop computers, which will be used to produce a series of videos that will be accessible on the KPD website.
“The new computers will greatly assist us in producing the videos, as well as to provide greater hands-on experience for our students” says Aiwohi in the release. “We will be working closely with KPD assistant chief Alejandre Quibilan in producing traffic safety awareness videos, which we hope will be helpful in keeping the public informed.
“Whether KPD uses our videos on its website or in various presentations, our shared goal is that more information about traffic safety will be getting out into the community,” she states.
The grant from the Kaua‘i High School Foundation is the first grant to be awarded under the recently created General Projects Grant guidelines. The General Projects Grant program is designed to support students and teachers at Kaua‘i High School through individual projects that emphasizes the innovative and creative thought processes, the release states.
Projects under this program can range from $100 to $3,500, and are reviewed and prioritized by a committee composed of students, teachers and community leaders, according to the release.
“We’re really pleased to award this grant which will support Kaua‘i High School students, as well as the Kaua‘i Police Department,” Kaua‘i High School Foundation president Gary Yamamoto states. “This project was the type of project that was envisioned in establishing the General Projects Grants program.”
