Are you having an itching urge to feel like a tourist on a tropical island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean?
Well, you can easily get rid of that itch. Try a “Tropical Itch” at (say it in one breath, I dare you) Island Palm Island Style Grill & Bar.
This exotic drink looks like a Mai Tai — and sometimes tastes like one — but it is actually a different drink, just check its DNA. The “Tropical Itch” has in its composition a shot of Grand Marnier, that fancy, pricey and delicious orange liqueur.
Bartender Vicky Sliger moved to Kaua‘i from Nevada less than two years ago, and has already made many close friendships on this island.
Vicky’s young looks make it difficult to imagine that she has two grandchildren, and — believe me — a great-granddaughter!
On her days off, Vicky loves to go to the beach and spend time with her boyfriend, an archaeologist/landscaper. She said she helps out her boyfriend every now and then, but thankfully has not come accross any bones.
Being such a people person, it’s natural that friends are always stopping by at Vicky’s home, which has been the stage of many barbecues. Vicky’s friendliness also pays off, literally; she was on the job only two days after applying for the position.
Island Palm Island Style Bar & Grill (rumor has it they might add another “island” to their name) is at Choy Village, just north of Kaua‘i Village, the Waipouli shopping complex where Safeway is.
The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch daily from 6:30 to 2 p.m., and dinner from 5 p.m. until they decide to close. If the “Tropical Itch” is not enough to lure you to the restaurant, just go for the food; it is pretty yummy.
Tropical Itch
1 oz white rum
1/2 oz dark rum
1/2 oz Grand Marnier liqueur
Grenadine
Pineapple juice
Many islands
Fill up with ice a hurricane glass. First, slowly pour a dash of grenadine. Layer with white rum, then pineapple juice. Gently top the drink first with Grand Marnier and then dark rum. Can you say “island” ten times now?
