Crafts, food, entertainment, refreshments — the K.I.D.S. School in Kapa‘a has it all, Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
With traffic advisories and closures in effect for the annual Veterans Day parade through Kapa‘a town, K.I.D.S. School director Phyllis Kunimura invites people to come early, enjoy the parade, and return for more shopping.
“Come early, park the car, get some home-made goodies from the K.I.D.S. Bake Sale and watch the parade,” Kunimura said in an email. “Plan on walking the multi-use path? K.I.D.S. School is right on the ocean and perfect for a stop for cotton candy and shave ice. Stay for laulau and kalua pig lunch plates, place a bid at the silent auction while the children play.”
Kunimura said there will a variety of vendor tables offering new and unique items for the holidays this year.
New to the K.I.D.S. School event is the appearance of The Lost Pelican Band playing music out by the beach, perfect for enjoying the menu of lunch items which include hot dogs, laulau, kalua pork, chili and rice. Other refreshments include cotton candy, shave ice, an assortment of baked goods including pies, cakes and fresh fruits.
The silent auction will feature more than 100 items to bid on.
“We are thankful for the community-minded people who come from all parts of the island to place their bids for wonderful gift basket and certificates which are perfect for the holiday season,” Kunimura, the school’s director, said.
The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, described by Kunimura as “the pink hotel in Waikiki,” has contributed a two-night stay for the auction, joining other golfing packages and sports packages as well as hotel stays and dinners.
Custom jewelry from Kaua‘i artisans like Neal Matsuyama, Kuni Quon, Ray and Diane Nitta, Wayne Miyata and Patrice Pendarvis are also available only through the silent auction.
“K.I.D.S. School is fortunate to have a wonderful group of caring community members who annually donate to the Tony Kunimura Silent Auction in memory of a man who believed in filling the needs of children,” Kunimura said.
Proceeds from the day-long event benefit the K.I.D.S. School, a non-profit community preschool for 81 three and four year olds since 1989.

The K.I.D.S. School event is one of at least four major craft fairs welcoming the holiday season.
Gayle Konishi said the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School will host its 8th Annual Pre-Holiday Christmas Craft Fair, Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the school’s cafeteria.
More than 25 Kaua‘i vendors will offer a variety of quality hand-made products including Christmas ornaments, hand painted glassware, Ni‘ihau shell necklaces, Japanese fabric slippers, Hawaiian salts and seasons, fabric products including table runners, placemats, baby quilts, pillows, baseball bat bags, clothes pin bags and assorted clothing.
Breakfast, snacks and lunches will be available.
The fair coincides with the annual “Flippin” Chicken Fundraiser pickup and sales where $7 gets a half chicken until 2 p.m.
