LIHU‘E — The doors of the renovated Wilcox Hospital Thrift Shop will re-open on Monday, with store hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The volunteers have been working hard,” said Norah Heppard, a co-manager of the popular thrift shop. “Some of them have been coming in at nights and they’ve been here on weekends in an effort at trying to get everything ready for the re-opening.”
Closed for renovations since the end of September, customers and contributors were still visiting the facility during the month-long renovation work.
“Everything is new,” Marolyn Schimoskey, the shop’s co-manager, said. “We got rid of all of the old and everything is new. We stripped everything down to the paint.”
One of the new additions is the special children’s room, where clothing and items for infants and young children are located in an atmosphere resembliwng a child’s room.
Another room accommodates men’s items and another is for women, the volunteers working to update its inventory.
When the doors open, a collection of holiday items will greet shoppers, welcoming them to the world of newly-contributed clothing, china, collectibles, jewelry, sports equipment, children and infant items and lots of holiday items.
“We’re still gratefully accepting donations,” said Marolyn Schimoskey, the shop’s co-manager. “People can drop off contributions daily.”
Heppard said they plan an open house on Nov. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The Wilcox Thrift Shop, for which proceeds go toward the G.N.Wilcox Memorial Hospital to acquire new equipment and other items, will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays hours are 9 a.m.to 1 p.m.
The thrift shop is an all-volunteer operation headed by Heppard and Schimoskey and currently has a corps of 30 hard-working volunteers.
