LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i police are attempting to locate a Hanama’ulu man who fled during a traffic stop yesterday. He is considered armed and dangerous.
David Borges, age 29, evaded police after an attempted stop, a county press release states. He fled on foot and has not been found. Borges is a suspect in multiple criminal investigations and has a bench warrant for his arrest.
At approximately 3:55 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, a police officer spotted a white Nissan pickup truck with a cracked windshield and no front license plate that was southbound on Waiahi Street in Hanama’ulu, the press release states.
Observing the violations, the officer signaled Borges to stop. Instead, the suspect continued driving, ran the stop sign at the Laulima and Kuhi‘o Highway junction and collided with another vehicle, the release states.
The officer initiated a pursuit, which continued to Kaua‘i Beach Drive, Borges crossed the centerline and drove on the opposite side of the highway for a short distance, the release states. He then attempted to turn down Kaua‘i Beach Drive, lost control of the vehicle and came to a stop at the Kaua’i Beach Drive and Kuhio Highway junction.
Borges then exited the vehicle and ran into an adjacent field. Officers surrounded the area and conducted a search on foot and by air.
Borges is five-feet, seven-inches tall, weighs approximately 228 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair. He of Portuguese descent, has a tan complexion, medium build and numerous tattoos.
