The public is invited for Okinawa wintermelon soup in either traditional pig feet, island pork or vegetarian versions which will hopefully be available for at least four hours, said Gwen Hamabata of the Hanapepe United Church of Christ.
The Hanapepe UCC will be hosting a plant sale featuring bargain prices with the Okinawan wintermelon soup available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday at its social hall located across the parking lot from the Hanapepe Public Library.
“Last year, we only had one togan and the soup lasted about an hour,” Hamabata said. “This year, we grew our own and have at least 18 togan for soup. Additionally, a person donated a whole pig! That should make the soup last for four hours, hopefully.”
