‘ANINI — A fisherman was rescued Friday afternoon in waters off ‘Anini Beach after his kayak started sinking. The 41-year-old Kapa‘a man was unharmed, according to a county press release.
The man had been fishing at approximately 12:55 p.m in the ‘Anini channel with a friend, a 40-year-old Kapa‘a man. The men were about 300 yards from shore when the kayak began taking in water. The 40-year-old man swam to shore to seek help, while his friend stayed with the kayak.
Lifeguards from the Hanalei tower responded on a jet ski and brought the man safely to shore, and then returned to the water and retrieved the kayak.
The man declined medical treatment and was released at the scene.
