PO‘IPU — Citing safety reasons, county officials closed the public parking lot at Shipwreck Beach in Po‘ipu as of Tuesday.
“It was brought to our attention that water had appeared in the parking lot and we are investigating to find out the source,” county spokeswoman Mary Daubert said on Wednesday. “The county is working with the assistance of the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i to address the problem as quickly as possible.”
The county has deployed a Public Works crew and an update will be sent out when the appropriate course of action is determined. No additional details were provided by press time.
The parking lot will remain closed until further notice. Meanwhile, Daubert said, “Public parking is available above the parking lot and along Ainako and Po‘ipu roads.”
