Marty Amaro is already “judged out,” and it’s only the opening day of the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau Fair. Marty was called into action to help judge the Kaua‘i Association of Family and Community Education baked goods before enjoying the Kaua‘i Coffee Celebrity Chef Cookoff for Charity.
Kelvin Moniz was not going to miss that cookoff and even George Mukai, the high points winner in the vegetable show, got to same some of Rey Montemayor’s Steamed Kaua‘i Grown Moi.
Kamalei Berg was thrilled to spend his birthday at the fair, earning a blue ribbon for his Lego project, and Chef Guy Higa spent his first day of vacation helping Chef Rey before taking Canaan Higa off to Pacific Lutheran University, Sunday.
Val Kaneshiro was busy helping at the cookoff so missed part of the 4H Livestock Goat Show and Mamo Kaneshiro was able to stop by the beekeepers’ event where he learned about the three bee pests from Jacqueline Robson and Lauren Rusert.
Mahalo to Bobo Ishikawa for the “iced” tangerine and Lyle Kobashigawa (first time for Kaua‘i Cookie!) for the “10-Q” water.
