What a surprise to run into Maya Soetoro-Ng and her children, Friday during the Art Night festivities at the Talk Story Bookstore.
Carol Yotsuda (she has a new Van Go!) was unloading copies of Soetoro-Ng’s book “Ladder to the Moon” in preparation for the book signing in front of Shaning Cierras and Veronica’s Gallery. Hopefully, they got to eat at Hanapepe Cafe.
Carol said Maya’s appearance helps the Garden Island Arts Council’s Kaha Kai mural project at Lydgate Park.
Of course, Ed and Cynthia Justus were excited since they were doing three book signings including a book by Deborah Duda and Jo Ann Lordahl which Celeste immediately turned into an improvised bed upon opening the box.
Ernie Kanekoa of Kalaheo Steak and Ribs had his first outing in Hanapepe (he was flipping ribs, Sunday at the Aloha from Kaua‘i for Japan fundraiser) and Anne Donovan (she was doing the coconut thingie) said she bought his first dinner plate in Hanapepe.
