HANALEI — Scrap metal and appliances are not being accepted at the Hanalei transfer station until further notice due to the facility having reached its permitted capacity for this service, states a county press release.
Public Works officials are working to resolve this matter and plans are in place to resume this service by Tuesday.
During the temporary suspension of these services at the Hanalei transfer station, area residents who would like to recycle scrap metal and appliances can take them to the Kapa‘a transfer station or Puhi Metals Facility.
The Kapa‘a transfer station is open daily from 7:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Hours of operation at the Puhi Metals Facility are Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The other recycling programs are continuing at the Hanalei transfer station including: green waste; propane tanks; used tires; household recycling in the Kaua‘i Recycles drop bins; and residential used motor oil and motor oil filters.
